Jade Kratochvil, Hill Top Times Editor-in-Chief

Jade Kratochvil is a junior and this is her second year on HTT staff. They are excited to lead the way for the rest of the staff as Editor-in-Chief. She is proud to share the stories of Rock Hill and its students. In their free time, they like to read, listen to music, and watch movies. They prefer to listen to records rather than listening to the radio, and, among others, her music genres are jazz and rock. They hope for a career in creative writing and journalism. In addition to HTT, Jade is also part of the Spanish Honor Society here at RHHS.

The varsity softball team was named Bi-District champions after winning 10-0 against Lone Star High School on Friday, April 29. We are a well-rounded team that compliments each other, and no one is above the rest, softball Coach Leigh Anne Budd said. Each team member embraces and loves each other for all the different qualities they bring to the table. The team advanced to round two of the playoffs, where they will be playing against Woodrow Wilson on Friday, May 6, at Carrollton Ranchview.

Sophomore Vi Periquet enjoys the music with their friends. I thought it was really fun, and even though there werent many people there, we were still able to have an awesome time and enjoy ourselves, Periquet said. The DJ was awesome! The unique dance prioritized inclusivity, as students were given an option throughout the night to be more interactive with the music of their night. A QR code was stationed for students to submit song requests to the DJ, so that everyone got a chance to choose the music.

Blood vials sit in a rack in the middle of the room. The red-capped vials were used more frequently, as they have no additive. However, the purple vials contain anticoagulants used for people prone to blood clots. Carter BloodCare is the one that draws the blood. They bring in their lobotomist and their medical screener, and they handle that aspect of [the blood drive,] Health Science teacher Lori Lewis said. With all of HOSAs help, the event ran smoothly.

Sophomore Shawn Reid swims the 200 freestyle event. He took first with a time of 2:03.33, a personal best. Despite his results, Reid pushed himself farther and took a few practice laps. I [did] okay but I could have definitely gone faster. I know I can give that one extra pull, that one extra kick underwater, and [it would] affect [my time] in the smallest way, Reid said.

Honors English teacher Jennifer Cheng says “I don’t know any Asian person who hasn’t experienced discrimination of some kind. Hill Top Times reporter Jade Kratochvil hopes to bring light to the extent and impact that racism has had against the Asian community.
