Ananya Nandyala, Hill Top Times Staff Reporter

This is Ananya Nandyala. She is originally from Pennsylvania, but now resides in Frisco, Texas for the past seven years. Ananya is a reporter for Hill Top Times and is a junior enrolled at Rock Hill High School. In her free time, she enjoys photography, reading and baking, and hopes to have a career in the healthcare field. Ananya’s favorite animal is a dolphin and her favorite holiday is Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. She is also passionate about traveling and experiencing other cultures.

The varsity softball team was named Bi-District champions after winning 10-0 against Lone Star High School on Friday, April 29. We are a well-rounded team that compliments each other, and no one is above the rest, softball Coach Leigh Anne Budd said. Each team member embraces and loves each other for all the different qualities they bring to the table. The team advanced to round two of the playoffs, where they will be playing against Woodrow Wilson on Friday, May 6, at Carrollton Ranchview.

Prosper High School held its annual Relay for Life event on Friday, April 22. I had a great time spending time with my friends and attending an event for a great cause, junior Sami Medudula said. Relay for Life is a walk dedicated to helping cure cancer through funds and donations.

Junior Chloe Lee is a member of the Rock Hill archery team. My favorite thing about archery is the ability to improve my focus and giving every arrow my best ability, Lee said. This past month, the archery team advanced to Nationals, which is to be hosted in Utah, after placing tenth at State.

The girls varsity soccer team competed at their first round of playoffs last night, March 24, where they won 3-2 against Lone Star. Playoffs are exciting. Its really rewarding to see all that we have worked for during district season payoff, junior Ella Allen said. The team advanced to round two and named Bi-District champions.

I think the best part of the Extravaganza was how much more interactive it was than the other pep rallies, junior and cheerleader Hope Dyer said. There was more games and activities that involved the whole student body, and I think that made it really special.

Local artists and vendors who specialize in crafts can come together to sell their products and grow their business, junior and NAHS vice president Sami Medudula said. Vendor applications for a booth at the fair will be accepted until Dec. 1.

Junior Abbie Cormican performs at the Rock Hill neon pep rally as a Rockette. My favorite part most certainly was the Rockettes, they always blow me away with their performance, said junior Ana Yanez. The pep rally occurred on Nov. 5th during soar time in the schools arena.

Theatre members Sofi Radice, freshman, and Taylor Bedford, sophomore, perform Revolting Children from their most recent show, Matilda, to encourage Rock Hill students to attend their performance. We learned the Revolting Children choreography in September, and we prepared for the pep rally the same as we did for the show, said Taylor Bedford. Her favorite part of the event was getting the opportunity to perform with the cast of Matilda and showing Rock Hill what they had been working on.

Since at the time Matilda Jr cast already did three shows, one being right before the pep rally, we already knew the dance pretty well, said Yanez. The Rock Hill theatre department performed their show on Nov. 3rd-6th.

Junior Nicole Bitner performs her routine at the neon pep rally as a part of the varsity cheer team. As a cheerleader, we had after-school practice the days leading up to the pep rally, and morning practices the day off, said Bitner. Running through the routine multiple times prepared the program to perform well.

Juniors Sami Medudula and Harinee Saravanakumar, as well as seniors Advith Gundala and Vishnu Ramalingam represented the engineering team at the parade. I liked seeing the community and their support for RHHS achievements, and I loved seeing everyone cheer us on, said Medudula. The engineering students had the opportunity to show off their solar cars as they drove them along the parade route.

In order to for the students to show their school pride effectively for the pep rally, each grade was assigned a neon color to pop in the black lights. My favorite part of the blackout pep rally was the energy the students section brought. The stands were so loud which not only showed our immense pride in Rock Hill but also uplifted and supported those performing. It also made the atmosphere so much more fun and exciting, said senior Alex Vincent. Students were encouraged to dress up for the pep rally and express themselves.

On Sunday, Oct. 17th, Rock Hill had their annual sign painting event in order to prepare for their upcoming Homecoming week. Students and family were invited to decorate the school and create posters for clubs/sports they’re involved in.

Rock Hills first ever Blackout pep rally took place on Oct. 1st, in the RHHS arena. I think getting to see everyone perform and get really spirited under the blacklights stood out to me the most because of how high-energy everything was, cheerleader and junior Nicole Bitner said. In comparison to other pep rallies, the cheer team members had to prepare for this one a bit differently as they practiced their routine by running through many trials to ensure that the routine was timed perfectly with the lights, and that it looked cohesive under the backlight colors.

National Art Honor Society celebrates their first ever “Art Extravaganza” on Sept. 30. Students were able to observe their peer’s artwork and have the opportunity to try various styles of Art. “I like how tactile Ceramics is and being able to add color to something that was nothing before,” President of National Art Honor Society and senior Akwani Nyamboli said.

The event took place at the RHHS arena, and was the first ever Rock Hill pep rally with all grades in attendance. “I am always thinking about making it fun for the audience, like making face expressions, keeping the energy up, and having fun.” Talonnette and freshman Taylor Bowling said. Drill team members practice their dance several times before performing and go over the count in their head to ensure they are prepared.

The Cheer team prepares for every Pep Rally by going over their routines and schedule of events in order to get into the right headspace and perform their best. “This Pep Rally in particular was very special because it was the first real pep rally of the season and for Rock Hill, excluding the end of year pep rally last year,” said junior Hope Dyer. “Thursdays pep rally really set the bar high for the upcoming ones this season.”
